Hospital Sant Joan de Déu
CONTEXT
Hospital Sant Joan de Déu came to us with a challenge that impressed us. As a high-specialisation maternal and child hospital, they had cared for over 420,000 women and children, managed 123,000 emergencies, and performed over 8,500 surgical procedures since 2019. Their impact was undeniable, but their digital presence didn’t reflect this reality.
What motivated us was the opportunity to directly impact the experience of thousands of families searching for critical information about their children’s health. Every click, every search, every completed form represented a mother, father, or child needing clear and quick answers.
They hired us for the complete renovation of their website: a platform that needed to serve both external users (families seeking information) and internal users (hospital professionals). The challenge was massive: restructure all medical information to maximise user experience, efficiency, and quality.

CHALLENGE
How do you transform the digital experience of a hospital serving half a million people?
The briefing presented us with a complex challenge. It wasn’t just about redesigning a website; it was about creating a platform that serves effectively to completely different audiences: families seeking the best possible treatment for their children, medical professionals needing quick access to resources, and administrative staff managing internal workflows.
In our co-creation sessions with the hospital team, we discovered something fundamental: each type of user had urgent but different needs. A mother searching for pediatric information needs immediate clarity, while a doctor requires direct access to specific protocols.
That’s when we understood the essence of our work: create a digital ecosystem that not only organises complex medical information, but makes it genuinely accessible to all audiences. A platform where technology serves human care directly.
01.
Strategy Centred on Real Users
We defined the specific objectives of the new platform together with the hospital team. In various co-creation sessions, we identified different user types: families, patients, medical professionals, administrative staff, researchers.
We developed detailed customer journeys for each audience, understanding not only what they were looking for, but in what context they arrived at the information. A search about paediatric surgery requires a very different approach than an administrative consultation.
02.
Conceptualisation for Real Life
We created a new information architecture that prioritised urgency and clarity. We developed a comprehensive content plan that considered migrations, integrations with external systems, and deep technical and content SEO work to improve visibility and reach more audiences.
We designed intuitive navigation systems that allow all users to find critical information quickly. The wireframes for all templates were conceived from human experience, not just technical organisation.
03.
Design that Conveys Confidence and Guides
We developed a graphic system that respected the hospital’s corporate identity while optimizing user experience. The design conveys confidence and professionalism, facilitating navigation for all families.
We created a specific web style guide that allows the hospital to evolve its content coherently and orderly in the future, always maintaining usability as a priority.
04.
Content that Connects with People
Following the new structure, we designed a documentation system that facilitates the preparation of new content. We identified which information should be migrated from the previous site and developed technical solutions to import and transform content to the new format.
Each piece of content was conceived from the specific needs of families seeking reliable medical information, balancing scientific rigor with clarity and accessibility.
05.
Technical Development Serving Care
We developed the new platform on Drupal 10, fully responsive and optimized for all devices. We integrated with external CRM and other tools necessary for hospital management.
We defined the high-performance hosting architecture necessary to guarantee 24/7 availability. We trained the hospital team to achieve total autonomy in content management, ensuring they could update critical information without external dependencies.
SOLUTION
Hospital Sant Joan de Déu’s new digital platform became a comprehensive ecosystem that effectively serves over half a million annual users. Designed to evolve with each new need, it connects complex medical information with families who need clear answers.
More than a website, we created a digital care tool that amplifies the hospital’s mission: accompanying families in critical moments by providing accessible, reliable, and updated information.
The result demonstrates that medical technology can be profoundly human when designed from real understanding of patients’ and professionals’ needs. A platform that honours both medical excellence and the specific needs of families who trust in it.
